Executive Summary
Ikpa Ibekwe Clan – 9 February 2026
The Ibom Minerals, Energy and Maritime Professionals Association (IMEMPA) convened a strategic stakeholders’ engagement with the Ikpa Ibekwe Clan of Ikot Abasi as part of its ongoing drive to mobilise broad-based support for the resuscitation of the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON). The meeting held at the Ikpa Ibekwe Council Chambers brought together the Clan Head, ten Village Heads, members of the Clan Council, key community figures, and IMEMPA’s leadership team.
The objective of the engagement was to familiarise the community with IMEMPA’s vision and mandate, present the Association’s historical advocacy efforts for ALSCON’s revival, and secure host community support for the broader resuscitation agenda. IMEMPA emphasised its neutrality in ALSCON’s ownership disputes and reiterated its commitment to partnering with all relevant stakeholders—including government, industry actors, and local communities—to achieve the plant’s full operational return.
The Ikpa Ibekwe Clan, led by Etebom Akpan Nelson Inyang, warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed readiness to support any genuine initiative aimed at reviving ALSCON. The Clan designated a liaison officer to interface with IMEMPA on all matters relating to ALSCON and advised that the Association extend similar engagements to the Paramount Ruler and the Ikot Abasi Local Government Chairman.
The engagement strengthened IMEMPA’s grassroots collaboration and reinforced the host community’s role as a critical partner in the multi-stakeholder effort to reopen ALSCON, which has remained inactive for over two decades. The meeting concluded with a commitment to sustained cooperation as IMEMPA advances its advocacy for the plant’s revival.
